Today, I want to talk with you about "meet", "meet with", or "meet up with", and this, in case you are wondering is the past tense of "meet". "know","meet","meet up with", and "meet with", and: What are the differences between those different words?
Please see this example : "I knew Kien last week" -> "knew" is the past of "know" and "met" is the past of "meet" so:
"I met up with Kien last week."
Do you know what is difference between these sentences are?
Are there ony ones that have a mistake in them or all these all good sentences?
So take a moment and think about it. So let's first look at the difference between these two. "meet" will be used in case the first time that two people are talking. Thye don't know each other. We use "meet" when we're meeting somebody for the first time. We will use "meet" for stranger. Some guys, they don't know each other and now they are meeting for the first time. These two, we could say:"They met last week." meaning: the first time they shook hands.
Now, compare this to "know" or "knew" with again, is the past tense. They've been friends for a very long time. They have history, No they met a long time ago.
This is the first time, we would use "meet" not "know". And it's not first time, you should use "see" such as: "Long time no see!"
2. What you could say is: "I have known Kien since last week". But if you are talking about, like, meeting first time, we would use "met". So in general what you're looking for is "met" for a first time meeting.

Common Mistake
1. Please be careful to use "knew" to somebody. if you say "I met Kien last week", this one is correct, because usually you know somebody for longtime and we don't use "knew" because it makes ti sound like the person has died or that you don't know them anymore. So we usually use "know" or we use "have known".2. What you could say is: "I have known Kien since last week". But if you are talking about, like, meeting first time, we would use "met".
